The Vera 2.0 design is a very special rug indeed combining one of the first, and still bestselling, designs from Pappelina with a brand new exciting and fully sustainable material Biovyn.
Biovyn is a natural 100% renewable food stock, in this case crude tall oil gathered from managed pine and coniferous tree felling, that does not compete with the food chain in any way. It completely replaces the use of fossil material (oil) with non-fossil material in the production of PVC. It offers greenhouse gas savings of up to 90%, it is durable for up to 100 years, it is flexible offering high performance and it is fully recyclable.
The unique Vera 2.0 Biovyn rug combines a metallic colour ribbon with a different tone or shade non-metallic colour ribbon and is fully reversible. The design itself is based on a number of equidistant circles running down the centre of the rug. On one side the background colour is metallic and the circles non-metallic. Turn the rug over and on the other side the design is reversed with the non-metallic colour becoming the background and the metallic colour the circles.
As all Pappelina washable rugs are woven on traditional Jacquard looms please allow a plus or minus 4 percent size variation.
Every single Pappelina rug is inspected by human hand and eye before it is allowed to leave the weavery so you are assured of perfect quality.

Since their inception over 20 years ago Pappelina have been focused on making the most sustainable and environmentally friendly rugs possible. Now they are extremely proud to introduce the Vera 2.0 Bio Edition, the worlds first carbon neutral plastic rug made of bio-attributed PVC from pine oil.
Crude pine oil is a natural residue the results from the process of making paper and is part of approved and responsible wood sourcing. The use of natural pine oil totally replaces the use of virgin fossil fuel that is so potentially damaging to our planet. That said fossil fuel based PVC remains one of the most sustainable plastics around, it has a low carbon footprint, a long life time and is fully recyclable, BIOVYN PVC is just the next step forward.
BIOVYN demonstrates that it is possible to substitute the use of virgin fossil feedstocks without compromising the unique product qualities of PVC such as durability, flexibility and recyclability that make PVC one of the most widely used, sustainable plastics in the world.
BIOVYN is fully certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) the worlds most trusted certification standard for sustainable biomaterials, biofuels and biomass production.
BIOVYN is made using bio-sourced ethylene derived from wood-based residue from the forestry industry. The wood come from forests founded on sustainable forestry principles with no deforestation, ever, sustainable harvesting practices - 50 million trees planted every year the preservation of all forest ecosystems and the efficient use of wood - nothing goes to waste.
This feedstock does not compete with the food chain, giving BIOVYN extremely strong sustainability credentials together with the fact it offers 100% replacement of fossil with non-fossil, greenhouse gas savings of up to 90%, durability of up to 100 years, flexibility with high performance and is fully recyclable.
Plastic is of course an emotive word today but PVC, whether fossil or BIOVYN based, is the most sustainable plastic around if for no other reason than, treated properly, a Pappelina rug will last forever and thus never enter landfill, oceans or simply scar our landscape. PVC is entirely free of phthalates and is completely non-toxic; it is in fact approved for use in the food industry and for toys in the EU and the US. PVC is also used extensively in healthcare and medical devices such as tubes and blood bags.
PVC has an extremely long life-span, is very durable and does not emit any microplastic particles that affect our health and our nature.
Biovyn PVC is made from natural resources and, thanks to its composition, is 100% recyclable as it can easily be melted down and reused.
