For all of us sustainable means many things but we feel an important factor is the life of a product. As our Grandparents taught us if we take care of things then they should last! All our products are selected with that in mind; they are built to last. They may cost a little more but once bought then they should last for many years, if not a lifetime! A benefit to your pocket, but also the planet.
If you find anything you disagree with or want to know more about then, please, just ask, this is an ongoing work in progress! Call us on 01993 867075 or email [email protected]. We care!
Roka London, a family company, truly care about our world and its future. So much so they have been certified as a B Corporation (or B Corp). To get this accreditation exacting social and environmental standards have to be met which represent a companies commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.
The B Corp certification has 5 key impact areas; Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is extremely rigorous with applicants being required to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. It is also compulsory to legally embed their commitment to a purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
100 million single use plastic bottles are used worldwide every day with a massive 80% of those never being recycled ending up in our landfills, our countryside and our oceans. Roka have created a sustainable range of bags made out of recycled plastic bottles and waste specifically to address this challenge to help recycle waste and protect all land and marine life.
PET material (polyethylene terephthalate, a raw petroleum-based material) is widely used in plastic bottles and other food packaging all over the world. Roka use recycled PET (or rPET) in their nylon sustainable bags giving a brand new and purposeful life to a material thats not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean.
For their canvas range Roka use waste from fabric production that would otherwise be thrown out, such as offcuts, rejects, scraps and trimming, and spin it all into a new repurposed and usable material.
Roka have also dived deep into the manufacturing processes developing a new production method that uses a whopping 85% less energy, 80% less water with 65% fewer emissions than traditional methods.
They have also taken a closer look at their packaging completely redesigning that as well. The Roka Sustainable range that we stock at homeArama comes in corn starch-based, biodegradable packaging.
All in all Roka is committed to a sustainable operation caring for their customers, their people, their communities and, of course, our planet. We are proud to be stockists here at homeArama.
